Where we went: Noodles

My new found love for ramen continues as I discover the myriad of toppings and textures that can be combined in one extra large bowl of hot broth and noodles. One rainy night after a trip to Ikea Blake and I found this little ramen place in Costa Mesa called Yamadaya.

Yamadaya is a small, informal restaurant, perfect for impromptu rainy day date nights, a weekend lunch, take out, or really any reason you can come up with to eat delicious noodles and broth.

We shared two different types of ramen. First we ordered Tonkotsu ramen which is what they are known for. They use thin noodles, a pork broth, and traditional toppings includings a boiled egg, scallions, bamboo shoots, and mushrooms. We also tried Tsukemen ramen. The noodles are thicker and come in a separate bowl. The broth and toppings can be different but here they were the same as the Tonkotsu.

The broth was warm and creamy but a little salty for my liking. Overall, I enjoyed the Tsukemen style because I could add the noodles myself, which were cooked perfectly in both dishes along with all of the other toppings.

Have taken advantage of the ramen trend and tried any great places where you live? Do you have any new food trends you are planning to try in the new year? I'm pretty sure my ramen discoveries will continue into 2015 especially after visiting the local market for these goodies. Stay tuned for recipes and hopefully homemade bowls of ramen!
